There are many reasons that people want a backyard makeover – growing family, new home or a newfound love of gardening. And, sometimes, a new luscious landscape is just luck. In September, Charleston area resident Jenna Michaels won a backyard makeover from Charleston Home + Design magazine. DIG Landscape was tapped to handle the makeover and the team certainly had its work cut out for it.
This Charleston landscape project required DIG Landscape to revamp a 1960s style backyard into a series of rooms using only the items provided by other local outdoor living companies. The homeowners also needed storage for outdoor vehicles and a workshop. So DIG Landscape was tasked with using a limited set of materials while incorporating the owners’ requests and space needs into the project.
The results are quite dramatic and a testament to DIG Landscape as a skilled Charleston landscape firm. The backyard has been transformed with two patio areas, outdoor fire pit, outdoor kitchen, a Pergola with a daybed for reading and lounging, a lawn area to play games, and a pond for the new koi fish. New outdoor furniture provides plenty of spots for eating, entertaining or simply sitting by the fire.
DIG Landscape also accommodated the owners’ need for outdoor storage and workspace by creating outdoor “walls” made of large plants. Outdoor speakers and lights were part of the prize package so the homeowners can make good use of their space day and night.
